These plants have a Westinghouse design and their technology is known as PWR (Pressurised Water Reactor), the most common in the nuclear industry. It uses fuel elements made of uranium dioxide enriched to 3-5%. The Ascó and Vandellós II plants are subjected to the strict control of the Nuclear Safety Council, as the regulator, as well as of other independent certification bodies, and they meet high international quality standards.
